Purdie was the first signing made by Dave Penney as Oldham boss. Purdie is a versatile player who plays primarily as an attacking midfielder, but he can also play in the left back position, in central midfield or in the 'hole' as a striker. He has also been known to play in defence on several occasions when the need arose.
Between 2002-07 Purdie made 184 Apperances for Hereford Town, before moving to Darlington in the summer of 2007 where he played under the current Latics boss Dave Penney.
